How Spending Time Daily with God Benefits Me

by Cindy Bleuler Tucker

When I spend time with God, praying and reading His Word, I am encouraged by His love and power.  Instead of facing my day negatively with a chip on my shoulder, I am aware of being loved and more accepting of the mistakes of others.  I am more careful of what I say and less likely to make a careless or cutting remark.  I think before I gripe.  I turn more quickly to Him when I get angry or anxious.  When I start feeling that way, I try to remember to stop what I’m doing, pray, and read the Word.  My situation might not change, but I am looking at things from God’s perspective and seeing above the daily trials of a fallen world.   The Word teaches me and gives me life. When I don’t spend time with God, it is easy to be in despair and only think of my problems.

I am also more sensitive to the prompting of God’s spirit as He makes me more aware of the needs of others and how to take action or refrain from action in certain situations.  I see the hand of God and His blessings in so many seemingly mundane things.  I take joy in the ordinary; the good parking place, the random smile or kind word.

The earlier in the day I take time to read the Bible the better, though many days I don’t get to it until the end of the day.  It definitely can make a difference in out look.  I so admire people who get up extra early to spend time with God.  Fortunately we can pray anytime and anywhere and with Bible phone apps the Word is always available.  We can include the Lord in all we do.

The best way to spend time with God is to make it a priority and find a time every day to do so.  What a difference it makes in my life-so much I don’t need to go a day without intentional time with the Lord.

Takarazuka “In the beginning was the Word, and the world was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.  All things were made through Him, and without Him, was not any thing made that was made.In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it…And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us,and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father , full of grace and truth.
