Sunday Worship 10-23-16

A thousand times I’ve failed
Still Your mercy remains
And should I stumble again
I’m caught in Your grace

Everlasting
Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame

Your will above all else
My purpose remains
The art of losing myself
In bringing You praise

Everlasting
Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame

In my heart and my soul
Lord I give You control
Consume me from the inside out,
Lord, let justice and praise
Become my embrace
To love you from the inside out

Your will above all else
My purpose remains
The art of losing myself
In bringing You praise

Everlasting
Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame

In my heart and my soul
I give You control
Consume me from the inside out,
Lord, let justice and praise
Become my embrace
To love You from the inside out

Everlasting
Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame

And the cry of my heart
Is to bring You praise
From the inside out
Lord my soul cries out

In my heart and my soul
Lord I give you control
Consume me from the inside out,
Lord, let justice and praise
Become my embrace
To love You from the inside out

Everlasting
Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame

And the cry of my heart
Is to bring You praise
From the inside out
Lord my soul cries out

Everlasting
Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame

And the cry of my heart
Is to bring You praise
From the inside out
Lord my soul cries out

From the inside out
Lord my soul cries out

Sunday Worship 10-9-16

Hark, the voice of Jesus calling,
“Who will go and work today?
Fields are white and harvests waiting,
Who will bear the sheaves away?”
Loud and long the master calls you;
Rich reward he offers free.
Who will answer, gladly saying,
“Here am I. Send me, send me”?

If you cannot speak like angels,
If you cannot preach like Paul,
You can tell the love of Jesus;
You can say he died for all.
If you cannot rouse the wicked
With the judgment’s dread alarms,
You can lead the little children
To the Savior’s waiting arms.

If you cannot be a watchman,
Standing high on Zion’s wall,
Pointing out the path to heaven,
Offering life and peace to all,
With your prayers and with your bounties
You can do what God demands;
You can be like faithful Aaron,
Holding up the prophet’s hands.

Let none hear you idly saying,
“There is nothing I can do,”
While the multitudes are dying
And the master calls for you.
Take the task he gives you gladly;
Let his work your pleasure be.
Answer quickly when he calls you,
“Here am I. Send me, send me!”

Must Jesus bear the cross alone,
and all the world go free?
No, there’s a cross for everyone,
and there’s a cross for me.

How happy are the saints above,
who once went sorrowing here!
But now they taste unmingled love
and joy without a tear.

The consecrated cross I’ll bear
till death shall set me free;
and then go home my crown to wear,
for there’s a crown for me.

Upon the crystal pavement down,
at Jesus’ pierced feet,
joyful I’ll cast my golden crown
and His dear name repeat.

O precious cross! O glorious crown!
O resurrection day!
When Christ the Lord from heaven comes down
and bears my soul away.

9-4-16 Sunday Worship at Cloudland Canyon

Psalm 111

1 Praise the Lord.
I will extol the Lord with all my heart
in the council of the upright and in the assembly.
2 Great are the works of the Lord;
they are pondered by all who delight in them.
3 Glorious and majestic are his deeds,
and his righteousness endures forever.
4 He has caused his wonders to be remembered;
the Lord is gracious and compassionate.
5 He provides food for those who fear him;
he remembers his covenant forever.
6 He has shown his people the power of his works,
giving them the lands of other nations.
7 The works of his hands are faithful and just;
all his precepts are trustworthy.
8 They are established for ever and ever,
enacted in faithfulness and uprightness.
9 He provided redemption for his people;
he ordained his covenant forever—
holy and awesome is his name.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
all who follow his precepts have good understanding.
To him belongs eternal praise.

This is absolutely beautiful! Oh, to have faith like this!

O, for a faith that will not shrink,
Though pressed by every foe,
That will not tremble on the brink
Of any earthly woe!

That will not murmur nor complain
Beneath the chastening rod,
But, in the hour of grief or pain,
Will lean upon its God.

A faith that shines more bright and clear
When tempests rage without;
That when in danger knows no fear,
In darkness feels no doubt.

That bears, unmoved, the world’s dread frown
Nor heeds its scornful smile;
That seas of trouble cannot drown,
Nor Satan’s arts beguile.

A faith that keeps the narrow way
Till life’s last hour is fled,
And with a pure and heavenly ray
Lights up a dying bed.

Lord, give me such a faith as this,
And then, whate’er may come,
I’ll taste, e’en here, the hallowed bliss
Of an eternal home.

Sunday Worship 8-14-16

O Master, let me walk with thee
in lowly paths of service free;
tell me thy secret; help me bear
the strain of toil, the fret of care.
Help me the slow of heart to move
by some clear, winning word of love;
teach me the wayward feet to stay,
and guide them in the homeward way.
Teach me thy patience, still with thee
in closer, dearer company,
in work that keeps faith sweet and strong,
in trust that triumphs over wrong.
In hope that sends a shining ray
far down the future’s broadening way,
in peace that only thou canst give,
with thee, O Master, let me live.

Meditation on “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”

  • Hymn Lyrics written by Joseph Scriven

    “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” is such a familiar hymn, sung in countless churches on numerous Sundays.   It is an old-fashioned tune that many of us find ponderous and frankly boring. It is often sung slowly and drags.

    Until you really think about the words:

What a friend we have in Jesus

All our sins and griefs to spare

What a privilege to carry

everything to God in prayer.

— He is a friend like no other. He is never selfish, He gladly bears every sadness and loss we encounter in life.  Beyond that, He takes on every mistake we make. He doesn’t just sympathize with our grief and forgive us for wrongs, He removes the burden off our shoulders and places it on His own.  It enables us to live lives of joyous, clear-eyed freedom.  We are able to live with an inner serenity.

Why don’t we?  We often think of prayer as a chore and forget it is a great help given to us.  What do we lose when we don’t pray?

O what peace we often forfeit,

O what needless pain we bear

All because we do not carry

Everything to God in prayer.

Foolishly, we don’t take advantage of this amazing help and comfort.  We fret, worry, and despair over circumstances and problems we can’t change.   We spend hours complaining and stressing with our loved ones, creating what if scenarios that might not ever happen.  We forget or don’t understand that when  we confess our guilt to Jesus, He gives us access to God our Creator, the One who sustains us. We are losing sleep, health and strength.  We are adding stress, grey hair, and fat; and shortening our lives.

We forget that once we take Jesus at His Word and promise allegiance to Him, trusting that His blood covers our sin,  we receive the tremendous privilege of being able to have fellowship with God.  In this restored relationship, we are given the gift of communication with God through prayer. This is the same God Who with His power  created the universe and has the power to change us and give us peace.

Have we trials and temptations?

Is there trouble everywhere?

We should never be discouraged:

take it to the Lord in prayer.

Can we find a friend so faithful

who will all our sorrows bear?

Jesus knows our every weakness

take it to the Lord in prayer.

Jesus is the great high priest who understands every temptation we go through and knows the extreme difficulty of resisting sin. “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet He did not sin.  Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:15-16

Are we weak and heavy laden,

cumbered with a load of care?

Precious Savior, still our refuge;

take it to the Lord in prayer.

Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?

Take it to the Lord in prayer!

We lose friends.  Sometimes we are wronged and can not forgive.  Sometimes we wrong others and don’t know how to reconcile, or after seeking forgiveness, don’t receive it.  We must seek Jesus and look to His example of turning the other cheek.  Ask the Holy Spirit to give us the grace to remember how much we have forgiven and in obedience, forgive.  As for seeking forgiveness, pray that you can approach that person with the humility of Jesus and that God will move in that person’s heart.  If there is no reconciliation, lay that relationship at the feet of Jesus and continue to pray for that person.   Pray that the Lord teaches you through this situation.

In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,

thou wilt find a solace there.

Sunday Worship 7-17-16

  • This may be my favorite hymn, definitely in my top 5.

The Solid Rock

“My Hope is Built on Nothing Less”
by Edward Mote, 1797-1874
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

His oath, His covenant, and blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When every earthly prop gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found,
Clothed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne!
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

Good Quote 7-13-16

Humanity does not pass through phases as a train passes through stations: being alive, it has the privilege of always moving yet never leaving anything behind. Whatever we have been, in some sort we are still.
